Finger bent sideways ..?!

Question: So I was at work and lost my balance, i put my hands out to stop my fall and caught my finger on a piece of wood , so my body weight went down on my finger bending it sideways. Hard to picture but anyway, I went to the doctor and had Xrays done, he said everything is fine but, (and everyone says this to me aswell) my finger is badly bent towards my middle finger from the middle joint, its also somewhat twisted .. any ideas what i can do to fix it up? It doesn't cause me any pain, just annoys me more then anything that the doc said it should fix itself.

It might be dislocated. I had the same thing happen to me when i was playing volleyball. You can pull it back into place, but it might hurt. I would get a second doctors' opinion.

you could have surgery to fix it. Report It

TAPE IT TO YOUR OTHER FINGER TO KEEP IT STRAIGHT

It will fix itself, operating on it could cause irreversible damage. Follow your doctor's advice.

If the doctor said to let it fix itself, then just let that be. You don't want to do anything that you will later regret.

Maybe you just have to give it some time to straighten up.

my arm looks wonky ever since i broke it but i got used to it. Have you tried bending it back?

Don't worry, it doesn't make much of a difference to life if your fingers aren't straight. The doctor was probably just being nice though, my fingers have been bent since I was in my early teens...over half a lifetime later they are worse than they were when I first damaged them.

My daughter got her finger slammed in the door about a month ago. It was also bent toward her middle finger and looked scary and crooked!!!! She's only 4 so we took her to the dr and it was broken. He just put a splint on it and we wrapped it in medical tape. I would recommend you put a splint on it. It really helped her finger it still looked crooked for a long time and we were scared. But, after about a month she can bend it again and it's not perfect, but it doesn't look bad at all! I would leave the splint on for at least 2 weeks if it's not broken, maybe more if it still hurts a lot and still looks funny!!!! Good luck.

It sounds like you might have knocked it out of joint. I did this with my pinky finger and though it was put back in place it still looks wonky, but it hurt before (extremely) and it stopped the moment it went back into place (did it myself with a good jerk). This happened year ago and my knuckle looks out of place but that's about it.
