HOW DO I HELP THE TIP OF MY FINGER TO HEAL BETTER after cutting it off?!

Question: Hello, I had an accident a few weeks ago, I am refusing to have the tip of my finger cover with skin by removing some bone, I lost most of the tip with 3 mm of bone. I can see how a thin cover of skin starts to grow, but I want to give my finger a chance to heal better.. I will miss having a nail, but I think it is actually growing after doctors said no..
please, this is a serious issue!
Thanks

actually you picked the best way to let it heal. we call it healing by "secondary intention" the advantage is that the skin that will cover the area will be thicker than any skin graft, the finger will be a bit longer, and the sensation will be better. the disadvantage is that it may take 2-3 mos. to get complete coverage. however after the first week the pain of dressing changes will be much less. one should change the dressing at least daily. be patient (ha, ha) later if a bit of revision is needed that can be easily done too. jantje

you asked another question: different strokes different docs. usually wash with soap and water and just go with a bandaid or some other light dressing at 3 wks. no use to get too aggressive. jantjr
