Neck broken and bleeding around the brain?!
Question: I just received a call that a relative of mine is in the hospital. He broke his neck in 3 places, C2, C5, and C7 and he is bleeding around his brain? he is consious. What would cause the bleeding around the brain? The doctors don't seem too concerned,, he is not in ICU. He has another cat scan in the am. Should I be worried? I can't make it there until I get off work.

An Intracranial hemorrhage is a serious problem. It can lead to a hematoma and can do some serious damage to the brain. There is little medically that can be done to treat and IH and Closed Head Trauma. Medications to control and seizing and to reduce swelling will be used but short of radical surgery there is little else you can do. Time is what is needed.

broken neck, at C2-C5 is a serious injury. BUT doctors know best. is he moving his legs and arms? He maybe be experiencing intracranial pressure. the best advice i can give to you is to seek a second opinion
