Torn Meniscus?!

Question: I just had 1/4 of my meniscus (outer left side of my left knee) removed. Can I expect full recovery, or should I limit exercise and quit fencing? (I'm 18 years old)

You should have complete recovery. After arthroscopy of my right knee (inside), that knee is better than my left one. It will take time though, it was about 8 months before I could sit cross legged. Of course, I am a good deal older than you, so you should heal more quickly. Don't try to do too much, too soon, it will only send you backwards on your healing. And if I may say, "OW!" I had my surgery Dec 06.

The important thing is to work with your doctor and physical therapist to determine when you are ready for strenuous activity.

1/4 removed?? or trimmed up?..you may have some problems down the road..ie the knee joint is not able to distribute the load evenly..like when your 30-40 yrs old etc..
