Did I pull my muscle?!

Question: I weightlifted after quite a long time but i spent 5 minutes stretching before it. All I did was bicep curls with 8lb. weights 30 reps, 3 sets. Now the area on the opposite of my elbow( the elbow joint area where the biceps and arm meet or whatever). Then a day later(yesterday), it started hurting whenever i moved my arm too much. Now, it's the same thing. I've tried ice, and took tylenol twice today, 8 hours apart. It still hurts. Did i pull my muscles or is it just pain and what can i do to help heal it. And do you think I should go see a doctor.

You more than likely strained your biceps tendons where they attach at/near the elbow. It is not uncommon for someone to strain their muscles after working with weight especially if it has been a while since you last did bicep curls. With the light weights that you were using, it's easy to "over do it" with too many reps because the weights feel "light". The main thing that you can do is take some over-the-counter medication and NOT do ANY upper body weight lifting for a while until the pain/discomfort eventually goes away (probably in a couple days). IF you want to get back into doing curls, I would suggest starting off with 8-12 reps/3 sets and then gradually increasing the number of reps. Eventually, you can build up to doing curls with heavier weights, more reps, and 1-2 more additional sets.

try not to push pull or lift any thing for a while

It sounds like you pulled a muscle!! I would see a doctor if the muscle doesn't heal in 1-2 days.

You overworked the muscles. Also you need to stretch AFTER lifting to get the muscle back to it's normal resting length. If it still hurts after 4 days go see a doc, you may have tendonitis, otherwise it will fade with time.

It's most likely small tears in the tendons/muscles that come from lifting weights. (That's how muscles get bigger, they break down to build up bigger). But, with a lay-off the soreness is often very bad. Try Icepacks for 20 minutes on/20 minutes off; then don't keep the elbows still, move them. Otherwise they'll get tight, sore and won't heal as fast. It should be better in a few days. There's most likely swelling in the elbows and Tylenol isn't anti-inflammatory; ask Mom & Dad about that. If it's still sore by the weekend, and it hasn't gotten better go see your family doc.

hey buddy
you should give it a little longer
usually when you are building muscle you muscle gets minor tears in it and it hurts for about 2 days
i would recommend working out only 2- 3 times a week
to give your muscles time to heal in between

good luck with you arm(s)
