My boyfriend is doubled over in pain?!

Question: He's been having back problems since he was a teen because he got into a car wreck. That was several years ago and since then his back problems have been getting worse. Lately, its been causing him severe pain in his back, neck, and head and the pain is unbearable. What's wrong with him? He doesnt have insurance so we cant go to the ER. Is there anything I can do? Please HELP!

He really needs to go get a Xray/MRI. There could be some irreversable damage by now and to prevent further damage he needs professional treatment. You can't do anything at home except medicate the sweeling and put a damper on the pain but you won't fix the problem.

Is the problem of insurance money? There are programs at most hospitals for people in these situations and they have advocates that work there just for these cases. It oculdn't hurt to go talk to someone. Good luck!

There are hospitals that take anyone.

Is there a health clinic or a hospital that lets you pay based on income nearby? It sounds like he really needs to be seen by someone.

go to a chiropractor

the er has to treat you regardless of insurance. just dont give a real address and they'll never bill you.

a heating pad and some Aleve might help but if he doesn't have insurance the ER can't turn you away and often times can help you get the state to pay for some of the visit, payment plans are also available, he should really see a dr though

To get any type of help your going to have to go to the doctor, sorry it may be a herniated disc or a broken disc.

Omg! Im so sorry make sure you have insurance before taking him to the doctor it could take a LOT of money

Uh...pay for a doctor. he needs to get X-rayed. Sometimes back pain will get worse especially if you haven't been treated.

No, if you do the wrong thing to his back, you could seriously injure him. Has he gone to a chiropractor? They aren't that expensive. Also, an ER will take you even without insurance.

Can you go see a Physiotherapist?
If you're having money problems do you have a friend or family member that could help??

Its possible that at the time of the accident he sustained an injury and thats healed incorrectly. Then he may have triggered it again by doing something as simple as sleeping funny...

Either that or go see a doctor.

well your going to seriously go to a doctor asap or get some form of medical assisstance. do not attemp to adjust his back by yourself, if you cannot afford a visit to the ER or a doctor try going to a chiropractor, they tend to be a bit cheaper and are professionals in your husbands situation. hope i helped.

try a heating pad or maybe ice, which ever feels better to him. Make sure he takes vitamins to keep him healthy. If he really needs it, try taking a low dose pain killer like Tylenol once every couple of days. A back brace might also be beneficial to him. Good luck and get hope he gets to feelin better!

you need to see if you can call the hospital and explain your situation maybe they know of a way he can be seen and call your welfare office

I cant believe Im saying this but you can find pain pills anywhere. If he needs them get some and I wouldnt feel bad. Come on its crazy how people who need meds cant get them, but the true pill poppers can get several scripts from different docs. Im telling you this for the immediate situation, my husband has been in pain like this and I've had to call friends and family to track down pain pills for him untill we could get to the doc

He has a back injury that is not going to get better on its own. You can try some temporary measures like alternating ice and heat. Thermacare heat wraps are nice and last several hours. You can get them almost anywhere and they are not very expensive. Aleve or Ibuprofen may help a little. If he can afford a Chiropractor he may get relief there. If he doesn't take care of his back he may wind up with a disability. I understand how hard it is when you don't have health insurance. Good luck. By the way, be careful if use use an electric heating pad. They can cause bad skin burns if used for a prolonged period of time.

Try a charity hospital. Urgent care or after hour clinics in my area will let patients with no income or insurance pay on a sliding scale. You may only pay $30.00 for a regular visit. I prefer theese places anyways. I find they have less wait times, load you up with samples, are more eager and take an aggressive approach.

You really cant afford not to get this checked out. Remember pain is the bodys warning alarm! You wouldnt ignore a fire alarm would you? Act on this soon.
Good Luck. God Bless..

massage therapy or chiropractor, a product called theragesic cream , volcanic (oil liniment) very good! and heating pads.

As one of the answers says, "go to a free hospital". If you live in an area that's far from a free hospital - i don't think you need insurance to call a doctor and ask what to do and what's going on (i may be wrong i'm from England, we have free healthcare).

Temporary relief: ice the areas of pain for 10 minutes, then 5 minutes of heat, 10 minutes of ice. Do this for as long as necessary. Whenever you do heat, be sure to surround it in ice ( in other words, never do heat without doing ice first and last. If you put it on swelling joints, it could make it worse). This should help. I was in a car accident a year and a half ago and still have so many problems.

Remember, this is only temporary. If he can possibly find an affordable Chiropractor, he really should see one.

Good luck!

I was in a car accident several years ago and hurt my back too. I did the required therapy and still had some pain lingering. What helped me a lot was swimming (doesn't put pressure on the back and neck b/c the water supports the body) and then relaxing in the sauna, at a local swimming pool. I signed up for swimming classes to get the exercise 3x a week, and be able to use the sauna. The heat of the sauna (I stayed as long as I could, and it felt great afterwards). It's affordable. The heat helps relax the muscles and nerves.

How about you give him a massage too? That was what physical therapy is, as well as gentle stretching of muscles.

Has he thought of gentle yoga (for recuperating after surgery) they got these special classes at hospitals.

Never, ever try a chiropractor, it'll just make it worse, from personal experience.

Good luck!

Kay hunny, right now he, not money, should be your concern. ERs have social workers and people whose jobs are to handle people who have no insurance. They are good about this.

'Sides, a funeral should cost more than the hospital.

It is possible that something is holding the pain of the accident in place. I may know of some one who can help. I will try to find him and get him in touch.
