When feeling very upset, is physical pain normal/heard of?!

Question: When I get really upset, I actually feel physical pain. I'm not talking about the normal pain in the chest, or even nausea or feeling lightheaded. I get these sharp shooting pains in my fingers and toes whenever I'm feeling particularly upset. I've asked around and nobody else I've talked to gets it, besides the normal pain above. So, I was wondering if I'm just abnormal or if other people get it as well?

Many people have physical symptoms to unpleasant emotions, but don't connect them. It took me years of back problems to realize that my back only hurts when I'm stressed or upset. Usually these physical symptoms happen to people who are trying to hold back the emotion that they're feeling.

uhmm... maybe you should go see a doctor...

that is very normal. stress can have many physical effects; all the way to digestive. i remember getting indigestion and severe back and neck pain, even numbing sensations to the face followed by anxiety attacks. it's a terrible feeling.

I've never heard of that particular connection, but it is within the realm of possibilities because as you get upset, your blood pressure could go so high that it restricts blood flow to your extremities (fingers and toes). I wouldn't say that's common, and it might not be that, but I think you need to go tell a doctor what's going on and get checked out.
