My hearing is getting worse and I'm only 25. Should I try candling to extrac!

Question: My hearing has worsened a little over the years and I'm only 25. Someone suggested I have my 'ears cleaned out.' Is candling safe? The procedure sounds a little intimidating. What other options are there for extracting ear wax?

Also, I'd like to start wearing ear plugs at night (my roommate's room is beside mine and the walls are paper thin), but I heard that this causes ear wax to build up.

I often fall asleep to my iPod (with the volume fairly low, but loud enough to drown out surrounding noises), but I'm afraid that this will worsen my hearing as well.

Thanks for your help.

Go see an ear, nose, & throat specialist. My daughter had this problem for months and her doctor kept telling her to use over-the-counter earwax removal kits. They didn't really help and then she was referred to a specialist. That person put tiny funnels into her ears and sucked out the wax through small tubes. There was quite a lot of it. Afterwards, her hearing was fine.

Turn the shower on very hot, but not enough to cause pain...

And then put each ear up close to the spigot, and the hot water will melt the wax...

As far as hearing goes, earbuds are one of the worst things you could ever do. As for the candling it does not work, it removes no real earwax, you only hear the candle not the inside of your ear.

Have your hearing checked with a ENT (ears, nose and throat) specialist before you start with all this other stuff. You could have an infection in the eardrum or your loss of hearing can be heraditary.

WELLL!! Don't listen to your IPOD anymore...give it to me, then you won't have a problem now would ya?

Candling is a myth. There is no way that the physics of a candle could suck the wax out of your ears. And its dangerous. Go to wikipedia and type ear candling into the search engine.

Buy an earwax removal kit from the supermarket. They work and its safe.

yeah, it'll help. There another procedure in which e doctor pour water in my ear and the wax falls out by itself. It's pretty fast, easy and painless.

the max amt of music we can hear daily is 2 hours. so it's really unhealthy to fall asleep with your ipod. you could get those ear pieces to block out those noise.

How do you know it's worse, the only way to really check is to get tested. Candling is safe.

Tell your roommate to shut the hell up and get off the plugs....

Me too i am 28 and i sometimes feel that my hearing and my vision is going out. Do you get ear infections often? And how do you clean your ears? I don;t know how many doctors have told me not to clean them with q-tips. Yea, maybe you should ex out on the ipod at night. I think you should let your ears rest as much as possible. But then again I am not a doctor.

ear candling is nothing to be worried about, its safe when done right... I'm guessing you have tmj and tinnitus problems and should be going to a very skilled massage therapist, accupunturist, or chiropractor... anyone claiming to be excellent at resolving TMJ and tinnitus in these fields

It could have something to do with falling asleep with music playing in your ears. Even if the volume isn't loud, it probably isn't a good thing to have the music so close to your ears for such a long period of time. Cleaning out your ears could help... but you really just might want to be more sensitive to your ears.

they have a new thing at walmart or walgreens it an ear cleaner it looks like a nose spray bottle but when you spray it it sprays backwards and cleans your ears try this i like it ive used it but i do use qtips and they are a quick fix but if its bad you do need to go to a doc to get checked it cant hurt

Candling is worth trying. You have to be sure to keep it upright and use a paper dish as a guard to dripping candlewax but it is amazing what you'll get out of your ear in one try.
I wouldn't wear ear plugs or headphones, especially for hours at a time as it encourages bacteria growth. I'd try leaving the radio on low or just the old pillow over head while you sleep.
You could still use the ipod in an ipod device (ipod ready radio etc) so you don't need the earbuds.
