Would you go to see an autopsy being done?!

Question: I am currently in an EMT class and we are going on a field trip to our local morgue. I don't have to go if I don't want, but I can't imagine how it will emotionally scar me seeing it. I'm sure it will be fine, but have any of you actually seen one??

A few years ago when I was a student nurse I watched an autopsy being done & it still haunts me some what to this day even though the picture in my mind has faded. For quite a while after the autopsy there were certain meats I couldn't eat without getting a nausea feeling.

The autopsy was so cold & impersonal. It certainly showed me what death was all about & I hope they never do one on me.

I have mix feelings so I can't really tell you whether to go or not.

ye

yes i think it would be amazing to watch! ive only diseccted fish and hearts before. im so jealous of you.

No

Heck Ya...Why the heck not?

You are an EMT trust me you will see worse then this.

I'll watch the TV version on CSI

No
I think i would get sick

It would be intresting! test practice with Dr. G.

yes

I haven't, and wouldn't.
I get kinda queasy when it comes to that stuff, but since you're an EMT student, perhaps getting used to that stuff might be a good idea. Try watching gory stuff online first, and if that doesn't bother you, then go for it.

If I have the chance like you do, I will go for sure....good luck
I think you can learn lot stuff and it will be really fun. Try the experience you will never know what can you get out of it.

Oh yes..

If you are in EMT training it may be a good thing if you attend , it may change your mind about your career choice...

for sure !

and can watch it on tv, but in person i think the smell would do me in.

Yes, I would go. I find it totally fascinating. If you are going to be an EMT, you are going to see a lot nastier things in your job than a clean body in a morgue. If you think you'll be emotionally scarred you need to rethink your career choice.

I probably would. The person has passed away and looks pretty peaceful on the table (as much as they can be at least). Its much better to look at them that way than finding them on the floor or somewhere else DBU. I've seen that way too many times and thats much more emotional. Go on and learn something, can't hurt.

I've personally never seen one, but if you're going to be an EMT or anything in the medical field you had better get use to death, blood, and the works. Accidents are not "pretty." You should go to be sure this is the "right" line of work for you. Good luck.

Been there, done that. I was a nurse for 35 years. Saw almost everything. If I am emotionally scarred, it's too late now. Go on your field trip....you're going to see much worse in your day to day job as an EMT.

Sure....seen many of them. Hopefully you have a strong stomach. It's not pretty, but if you are going to be an EMT, you are going to see some pretty gory things.

I would. I'm fascinated by how everything works and where everything fits.

I haven't seen one but if i have to why not.

I think you should prepare yourself for what you may see at a car scene accident. Seeing an autopsy may not be as bad. Personally I wouldn't but I'm in mortgage!

yes i would. and no i haven't

No I've never seen a live autopsy, but I would it seems so
interesting. Actually there was an autopsy done in the beginning of the movie saw IV(4)

I have never seen an autopsy being performed. If you are going to be an EMT you may see some pretty horrific sights that may traumatize you worse. If it's up to you, then ultimately you need to look within yourself and make that decision on your own. For the learning opportunity it would be a good idea.

I was the only one in biology class in college who elected to disect a fetal pig, but I didn't want to fail, so it's my personal opinion.

Hope it helps. Good luck!

no. but you will be fine. it's a bit late to worry about the blood and guts???
