Pain in my knee???!

Question: I ran a relay marathon in september of 07. Mostly i trained on trails, but my leg was 18 miles, 12 of the 18 miles were ran on concrete. After my leg, i was in a van for about 18 hours with the 5 other members of my team. we all had our own seats so i was able to stretch out but still, my knees were bent pretty much the whole time.

I have never had any knee problems before, no injuries except for the occasional scraped knee. During the last mile of my leg of the relay, my right knee pretty much locked up, since then, anytime i run over 2 miles, or jump rope for a while, my right knee begins to have pain on the outside, and the more prolonged activity, the pain wraps around the front of the patella all the way to the inside of the knee....has anyone experienced this before? I'm a little freaked out by it, b/c i can't participate in sports to half of what i was able to before. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

This sounds like runner's knee. A lot of runners get knee problems for a variety of reasons.

I had what's called jumper's knee. Basically, tendinitis in the patellar tendon. It's similar to runner's knee. What you need to do is make sure you stretch out your quads and hammys really good. I mean every day. That helps. And strengthen those quads and hammys really good too. Some people/runners have overdeveloped one part of their leg muscles while the others are underdeveloped. This can cause misalignment and your actual kneecap can irritate that tissue around there. If you do leg extensions on a machine, do them one legged to make sure each leg is getting the same amount of work. Same goes for the hammys. And even after your workout, stretch again. And then ice.

Ouch!! I'm sorry. God bless you and everything that sgoign on, But it's because everything you've been doing, Your running finally came back to creep ya.

Maybe tendinitis. Not uncommon for athletes and dancers, You should see a doctor, There are ways to treat it so you may resume your activities without causing injury.

I used to run long distance and ran into knee trouble at the start of a season. Turns out I was working out improperly not doing complementary leg exercises and my thigh muscles were unbalanced, yanking my patella to the inside and causing some significant pain when I ran. I fixed this by taking it easy on the LD, but doing physiotherapy to strengthen my whole knee (stabilizing exercises like standing on exercise balls, lunges). Uhh otherwise I have osgood-schlatter, like most active people, and this made my knee pain/problems worse I am told.

sounds exactly like osgood shalatters i have it and thats what mine always is like and i got mine from football

Ok well i have had 2 knee operations one where they did a lateral release and the reason for that is because the knee cap was to tight, i used to do alot of cross country running and stopped because of my knees, trying have acupuncture before you consider surgery as this is very affective or go to your local gp and they will refer you to orthopedics where they might give you an op where they put a camera in your knee and have a look to see if its torn cartlidge, inflamed areas etc, they also gave me a steriod injection ( cortisone) which helped no end. I hope this gives you some sort of insight as I have had no end of knee problems and im only 26!! Dont be freaked out by whats happning it happens to alot of ppl who play sport... good luck!! :)

i am a marketing director of a wellness company and they have all natural medicine and this medicine they have received a paten on it from fda and its called replenex and you can order it on line thru this wellness company the medicine thats absorbed in your blood called glucosamine it keeps your joints well oiled it has alsobromelain, ginger, and green tea i hope this will help you i would hate it ..i use to run track back in the day and i had trouble with my ankles if they had this then ...good luckmy friend

get yourself to a physio...they'll be able to advise you on the best course of action...if your lucky you'll just have to strengthen up the muscles around your knee...if not they may get you reffered to an orthapaedic surgeon...
