Fractured wrist and elbow?!

Question: Ive fractured my right wrist and elbow on monday and had pins put in to hold them in place, my pinky finger and ring finger are both numb still, should they be like this or does it sound like the stookie is on too tight. Im worried if they stay numb for too long it will cause permanent damage. Is this normal? ive never broken anything before. Took ages typing this with my rubbish left hand! any advice appreciated, thanx.

Dont worry. The surgeon has to move your Ulnar nerve around during the operation (Google it if you want to know its location) which relays impulses from those two fingers, and after an operation such as this it is completely normal to experience this for up to 4 weeks while the nerve 'settles down'.

Take it easy - well done for getting through the typing. :-)

You've done well typing then. I tore a ligament im my hand and I get pins & needles (as well as the pain) got to have an op. Best speak to the Doc. Get well soon

Keep It Still
Keep it Tight
Too Tight doesnt matter!
Gotta big broose O WELL! GET ICE! IT BRINGS SWELLING DOWN! >DUH<

I'd check with Doc, just to be save.... It maybe to tight and this could cause problems.... Get it checked by Doc.

how did you do it?
and i dont know whether thats normal!

Deacon the Beacon is totally right.

It's really common to have some kind of nerve irritation or even damage after a fracture or orthopaedic operation. I had a knee operation and they had to cut across a nerve that supplies the skin on the front half of my shin, it was numb for ages but the sensation does start to come back after a while.
I wouldn't worry too much about it if it's just the sensation you have lost, just make sure your doctor is aware of it and definitely alert him if movement is impaired.
One quick wee warning though, because your fingers are numb be extra careful when your handling hot things or opening and closing drawers etc...sounds obvious but be careful of those fingers because you wont feel the pain that would normally alert you to something being wrong! I burnt my shin leaning it against a radiator and didnt feel it!
Well done for the typing though, and as the pain in you arm and wrist gets better get moving your right fingers as well, keep the muscles strong!
