Can you become ill because of the temperature around you?!

Question: I leave my window open every night and it is about 30 degrees F outside and I have been ill for 5 days now. My mother says that that is the reason why I am so ill but I am not so sure. Please help!

Being cold cannot make you sick.

It can make you less immune to diseases you normally wouldn't catch.

Your body keeps a certain temperature all the time (homeostasis) and if your outside temperature is cold then your body will focus on maintaining your body's normal heat level therefore diseases and infections could affect you much easier.

Bottom line, sleep with blankets and make sure you get enough nutrients to keep you from getting sick.

Well, just try shutting your window.

i have heard of folks being ill when its hot out but not when its cold....sorry thats a new one on me

of corse you can get sick from the cold. i used to sleep near the window in my room and i got sick all the time becuase it was freezing. you can even get sick from it being to hot. your mother is right. try t leave the window closed. its alright if you leave it open once in a while bt not all the time. =) feel better
