Has anyone had a bad cut which stayed swollen even after it was healed?!

Question: I have a nasty wound on my face from a car crash. It was stitched in casualty, but became infected and they had to take the stitches out after three days. After that, it healed by itself with no more stitches. The cut itself isn't too bad now, but the skin all around it is still swollen and looks horrible. Does anyone know how long the swelling will take to go down, or should I be consulting a plastic surgeon right now? (It's now one month after the accident, and three weeks since the infection went away.)

If it is still sore to the touch or throbbing, then it might still be infected and you need to see a Dr. to get antibiotics.

Otherwise the red swollen tissue is probably scar tissue or part of the healing process. You might want to see a plastic surgeon if you are worried about scarring. Otherwise, if it is not infected, the red swollen tissue will turn into hard, white scar-tissue that is less swollen.

If the wound is totally closed and not infected, you should rub good hand-cream with Vitamin E in it into the scar three times a day. That will help the skin to re-form properly and will minimize the scarring.

you may have an infection

well, i dont think u should get an opperation cause it takes alout of money.

MY friend at school was thrown into concrete and he has huge scars ALL over his face. IT looks a little like he got some sizzling oil on it. Wait about 2 weeks (if you are patient) and see if it goes away. The next step ( if it didnt go away) try some scar cream. IF it isnt effective, then ask your doctor what you should do. Plastic surgery should be a plan B.

Maybe not a plastic surgeon but a doctor for sure if you're worried about the swelling and scarring, if they reccomend a plastic surgeon then go from there.

Once I was stung by a bee, and it stayed swollen for a very long time even though the stinger wasn't still in it.

I think it will be swollen for a pretty long time, but you should see your doctor just to be sure (if you haven't already). But don't get plastic surgery, you'll regret it later.
