I just got braces. There is a painful sensation all around my mouth. How to numb!

Question: Things like tylenol seem ineffective on me.

Answers: Things like tylenol seem ineffective on me.

I have had mine in for 8 months. I know how painful it is it feels lyk hell ! Try eating icecream, it sort of numbs it, well good luck !

The pain you're feeling will last a day or two but you can knock it out somewhat with some strong aspirin. Don't try to eat anything for a day or so that's hard because the pain is unbearable then. That was a lesson I learned the hard way.

Ah, the braces. I too had them. There's not too much you can do other than try some anbesol. Also, if you don't already have it, get some wax from the ortho - you can put it over the braces until your mouth gets used to the braces, you'll be sore for a while. Hang in there!

O my i know how you feel. It should go away within a couple of days. Otherwise just try to eat soft foods. I never really found anything that helped with mine. (Oh and just a warning it will be sore like after everytime you get new bands on. so maybe try taking a medication like an hour before you next appt. or something.)

Yeah, braces can be a bummer when they are first on, or whenever they tighten them too much too fast.

Start by taking your Tylenol or ibuprofen around the clock - don't let them wear off. If Tylenol isn't working have mom switch you to Motrin/Advil because they help with inflammation (which is why your gums ache)

You can try heat or ice. Heat helps the body to naturally pull the lactic acid out of the cells and reduce pain, but ice numbs. So, you'll have to try which one you like best.

Oragel is wonderful. Rub it on your gums. It's safe enough for babies, but it's effective. Apply with your finger or a QTip & Let it sit on your gums and soak in. Chloraseptic lozenges are also very good at easing the pain.

At night, see if your doctor will give you dental wax - this is a soft wax that can be pressed onto the sharp edges of the braces and is very soothing.

Eat only soft foods for now - mac & cheese and jello were all I lived on after a tightening or new area was put on.

It really will get better soon.

hi, i got braces 4 days ago and mine still hurt.

the pain u are feeling is normal for a person who has just got braces. im guessing that u feel a lot of pressure that turns into very very sore aching (THAT WILL CONTINUE FOR ABWT 4-5 DAYS)

all u need to do is eat liquid foods for like 3 days or um...mashed banana and hot chocolate (they soothe ur mouth)

oh and take 2 pain killers every 4 hours for 3 days and it will take the edge of ur pain.

and i will make a list for u for what to eat untill ur pain fades.

ok ...

;mashed banana
;hot chocolate
;ice cream
;soup
;fruit juice (orange is best)
;biscuits dipped in coffe or tea or hot chocolate and the biscuit will go soggy(shortbrtead...yum)
;mashed potatoe (day 2)
;milk

thats about it untill your pain fades ok.

GOOD LUCK!

Ibuprofen or other names: Motrin or Advil.
ibuprofen is a anti-inflammatory drug.
last longer than Tylenol.
works very well on bone or muscle pain.
Take this before going to the orthodontist, it will prevent the pain from ever occurring.
Read directions on package and take as directed.

you need to take a pain tablet ,to clean the inside infections,
and you will feel better-)
