My friend picks her arms and she really needs help to stop as the scars are deep!

Question: her problem is she gets tiny little spots and picks them till they bleed, sometimes she does not realise she is doing this but as soon as they scab she carrys on picking, most friends and family have noticed she does it more when shes either upset or worried now we are all worried how can we help her stop?

it is a compulsion.
there is probably more going on in her mind than you ( or maybe even she) is aware of.

if it is severe enough, she can see a mental health professional and get meds to help with compulsions.

I pick when I get upset... It's just bad habit... I've tried to stop but it's hard because I do it without thinking... It's almost as if any rough surface on my body that I feel, I want it to go away or pick off...

Fortunately I haven't done it to the point where it bleeds/ or leaves scars... but it's still not good...

Better to give up the habit. Its a bad habit.
When she starts just try to divert her attention towards something else.

Really, all she can do is quit picking at it. You guys can encourage her to do so, or remind her to stop when you see her doing it, but it's up to her. Sometimes though compulsive scratching or picking can be a sign of depression or something related, so if that's the case then talking to a counselor (or otherwise dealing with stress in her life) might be helpful.
