Your eye is just pissed cause you didn't take better care of him. Just give it a few hours, and if the redness is still there in the morning, give the doctor a call, you might have permanently damaged it.
I doubt it, though.

Keep flushing, same thing happened to me when I was a kid

It's irritated and will be red for a while. You still should have a doctor check it to make sure you got it all out. He/she may also give you something to lessen the irritation since the last thing you want is to make it worse by scratching because the soreness makes it feel itchy.
