Do you love being a nurse?!

Question: I'm in nursing school. And so far I think I will really enjoy it. I want to work in periatrics with the babies and the new moms. But I hear that nursing can be really stressful.

I just graduated in May of 2007 and so far I like it, but it is very stressful, especially when you're just entering the game. You have to be focused, determined, and ready to give it your all! I'm young and my friends all still hang out, but I am always tired! I work out and work that's my life. Some weekends I hang out , but during the week I make sure I'm in bed by 10pm!

Get ready for a love/hate relationship with your career hun. I love being a nurse, helping people, caring for others, making someones bad day a little better, all of the mushy stuff I went into nursing for. However, it is very stressful. You must be good at multi-tasking, organization, time management (there will never be enough time btw), anger management, etc....It's mostly the management/politics in health care i hate. It is hard to provide care and compassion with time restraints, over crowding, budgets, short staffing, bureaucracy; it all can really cause you to feel as though you are not doing what you intended to when choosing nursing as a career. But, if you enjoy it, go for it. The rest will work itself out and just stay strong, and always fight for the best interest of not only your patients/residents/clients but for yourself. Best wishes!!
