Honestly, your daughter NEEDS to see an orthropedic surgeon to have her knee scoped. If nothing is broken and a contrast MRI did nothing, then that's your best bet. There's also the possibility that she tore a ligament or tendon. But a qualified medical professional should be consulted more than anything...

P.S. Don't let the doctor push you around. Essentially, you're HIS/HER boss. NOT the other way around! Make them work for their money and get your daughter better.

If I were you I would try to go see a few different doctors, just because one of them didn't see the problem doesn't mean that no one else will find the problem. Also, make sure that whatever drugs she is taking for the pain (Advil, Tylenol, etc) make sure that she is taking one that is an anti-inflammatory, not just a pain killer, that will help while you are waiting to get her into the doctor. Also, have you done icing and heating? That can really help, although they generally say not to heat if there is any swelling. So, if there's no swelling use heat, if there is swelling stick to ice. Do it for several days too, in conjunction with the anti-inflammatory. Good Luck.

P.S. Obviously I am not a doctor, but my mother and my stepmother are in the medical field and that's what they would say.

A good physical therapist can really help her...mind you, it's not a miracle cure where she'll have no more pain after one visit. But many patients report they have fairly immediate improvement in their pain. Chances are, the ortho you're going to see will recommend physical therapy before considering a surgical answer anyway.

Maybe you should try a Massage Therapist. By working the muscles around the knee the therapist will promote blood flow to the affected area, which might in turn relieve tightness and some discomfort. Therapists will also test the range of motion and determine which muscles are the cause of your daughter's discomfort. There are times when we will have an injury and because our instinct is to baby the area we put stress on another part to compensate. My favorite thing to say is "for every action there is a reaction" You may also use cold and heat therapy on the area. 20 minutes of cold and then 20 minutes of heat for about an hour. My favorite oil to use is Castor. Because of its healing quality, a little Castor oil rubbed into the affected area before applying heat is wonderful. ( I have what is commonly known as tennis elbow and I use this therapy on myself.) Before you seek the help of a therapist, get clearance from your doctor.

Hope this helped.

My sister was 16 but she tore her miniscus in her knee. They had 2 mri's and they missed they said she was fine. Then she ended up having 2 sugery's.The radiolgest and tthe Special doc. for this missed it . She went to P T. that helped. her pain was in the back of the knee but her friend had the same thing and her pain was by the knee capup but her friends didn't
My sis locked up. H er knee. Don't give her pain killers just motrin. Pain killer's people get hooked on them then that turns in to drugs. The person on the news is a druggy and takes 5 oxycoddone a DAY!!! be care ful and if she does get her in to rehab!!!

You could also ask for ultra-sound, sometimes they find more than the masses. Like seeing the soft parts.
Take care.
