I have frequent migraines?!

Question: I take imitrex nasal spray for them and it works really good. It is awfull expensive though. Since I get around 6 a month the doctor wants to put me on Topomax. Has anyone had an experience with this. Does it really reduce the number of migraines you have.
Also does anyone know of a cheaper migraine medicine to try? and how expensive is topomax. I have insurance bcbsil.

This one is easy......
first, my husband, and a close friend now takes this. NO MORE HEADACHES.

Topamax was initially designed to treat seizures. What they didn't know was it also works on migraine headaches. It is widely used now to treat migraines.
My husband, friend, and patients say it works really well, No odd side effects like feeling high or sleepy.
One side effect I should mention: you may loose a little weight when taking this drug. The weight is lost, very slowly, over a period of time.
Must mention, do not stop taking this drug suddenly..........you WILL get a severe rebound headache. My husband has forgotten to get it refilled only once. He never forgets now. He has been taking it for about 8 years now.

Well i get migraines a lot too so i know the pain its causin!

When I get one, I dont use a migraine medicine. What I do is right when my eyes start doing weird things and/or hurting (thats the first sign for me that i have a migraine) I take an ibuprophen to hopefully reduce the symptoms. Then if I actually start getting horrible headaches and vomiting, I stay in bed, sllleeeepp, and drink caffeine. A coke always helps.

Look it up on WEBMD it will tell you all about the drug and you should tell your Doctor you have no insurance so he can prescribe you something not so expensive. I hae the same situation no insurance migraines and high blood prssure finally after two years I was put on valium. works wonderful and is fairly cheap

My Mother used to get Migraines all the time too.
She ended up getting an operation on the inside of her nose and they stopped and never returned. I hope this helps because
noone should have to live with that. Good Luck

Have you ever been tested for food allergies? My mom used to get migraines all the time and took all sorts of crazy pills to help get rid of them....this was quite a few years ago, so I do not remember what they were. Anyway, her friend suggested that she go and get tested fo food allergies. It tuns out that she is allergic to wheat. After changing her diet, she has not had a migraine or headache in years.

Good luck.
