If your throat becomes unbearable it is a good idea to error on the side of caution and have a throat culture to check for strep. You need to go to your doctor for that.
It could just be a cold virus that has settled in your throat. Over the counter painkillers sometimes help. Ibuprofen, Tylenol, etc. Sometimes PURE aloe juice can help to heal a sore throat.
Rest and vitamins and hydration. Hope that you feel better soon.
It's going around. Coworkers in my office have been getting it. I had the same thing two weeks ago and it seems to come back. Gargle with warm salt water every two hours and take cough medicine. I took Mucinex for coughs. It has to run its course. Good Luck!
