What's the difference between ice or heating pad?!

Question: I've had lower back pain and noticed that ice took away the pain. What's the difference between using ice and heat on sore muscles. When should I use ice and when should I use heat?

Ice will help reduce swelling and inflamation. Most often these symptons are a result of some sort of injury. You may have damaged some tissue in your back resulting in swelling/inflamation of this tissue. Cold basically takes pressure off from and "numbs" any pain sensing nerves causing you to feel less pain.

use ice the first 24 hours of pain then heat after that
ice keeps the swelling down
