The ear is divided into three parts: the external ear includes the visible part of the ear (the pinna) and the ear canal; the middle ear is the air-filled space behind the eardrum that contains the three middle ear bones (the ossicles); and the inner ear contains the sensory organs of hearing (cochlea) and balance (semicircular canals).

The Eustachian tube is a membrane lined tube that connects the middle ear space to the back of the nose. Problems include partial or complete blockage which can cause popping, clicking, and ear fullness. Allergies, sinus and ear infections, or the common cold can cause this blockage, while altitude changes can cause symptoms in those persons with Eustachian tube problems. Treatment includes several manoeuvres (swallowing, chewing gum, yawning etc.), which can be done to improve Eustachian tube function.

If you have an infection you will need to obtain medication from your health provider/Doctor.

Popping sound is quite normal, the problem is an infection, which is the next stage. This will be painful and in acute cases acutely uncomfortable.

Blowing you nose with any force will cause the tube to open , resulting in mucus being forced up the tube.

Over the counter decongestants can help.

If you ever have the opportunity to experience Sub aqua diving you will find out just how important the Eustachian tube is.

Info: Bartolommeo Eustachio was the Italian anatomist who discovered this troublesome structure. The name doesn't tell us anything about what it does, only who discovered it. He died in 1574, never guessing that you and I would be discussing his tube on the World Wide Web! )

yawn lots..

Eat something and yawn.

yawn! if you keep yawning you will feel it unpopping.

this works on flights too - sucking sweets is supposed to help but doesnt. just yawn!

you may need your ears syringing. The nurse at doctors surgery can usually do this for you.

yawning is the best way or swallow

this may sound stupid but a doctor once told me this and it works hold your nose and then blow through it your ears will soon pop

Eat and drink something then yawn.
Good luck

sounds like you need to clear your nose which is connected to the ear. One way is to put boiling water into a bowl - be careful as its hot - put a towel over your head and that over the bowl then breath in and out naturally for a couple minutes taking in the steam then repeat what you have done by blowing nose which should release pressure. I also recommend that you see your GP if no inprovement tomorrow who can give medication to help. I hate this feeling always get it after flying myself. I have found airways the chewing gum also help me.

this worked for my dad when on an airplane once:
stick your pinky finger in your ear and tilt your head downward on the side(s) of your plugged ear, and then hop on one leg several times. just dont do this when others are around:)
