Serious question? On your tongue there are all these little taste buds,?!

Question: I have a small area that is swollen an irritated. It's been that way for several days, nothing I do seems to help. Any suggestions to make it go away?

Inflamed taste buds are fairly common, and tend to go away on their own. Sometimes rinsing with warm salt water can ease irritation.

tell us what you've tried, this way we can answer your question better

try sucking on an ice cube

It sounds like the taste buds are irritated. That can be caused by a lot of things...eating a lot of salty/acidic food, food that's very hot...or even a virus.

Try gargling with an 8 ounce glass of warm water with a tablespoon of salt in it. Or if you have it...hydrogen peroxide in the same diluted ratio as the salt water...but DON'T swallow it.

gargle with warm salt water, if that dont help see a doctor.

u need to go to da doctor immediately u might have something growin on yo tongue

this is too funny... that problem is how I found out about yahoo Q&A, I was looking for the answer to the same problem about a week ago! Mine went away on it's own about 4 days after it popped up. I think mine came from eating an excessive amount of oranges. I laid off oranges for a few days and it cleared up.

As you get older, your taste buds reduce in numbers, thus why some senior people like strong tasting food.
However, up until your mid 50's and even at a slower rate after this, your taste buds re-generate to replace other ones that have been burn or destroyed...
This happened to me when I drank HOT HOT HOT coffee, it lasted about 3 days.. placing ice on it helped soothe the burn.. and braces anesthetics aided too.
(They sell the braces anesthetics at Publix, or practically any groceries or pharmacy store...)
Good luck! :D

Try a salt water gargle a couple of times a day. If you are in pain get some Difflam mouth gel and rub it on as per instructions. This is great stuff for any type of oral pain. Bonjella might also help.

Don't rule out biteing your tongue in your sleep. If that is the case, then another day or two and it will subside.
