My boyfriend is having bad migraines, with weird after affects...?!

Question: About 2 weeks ago my boyfriend had a really bad migraine. Now, he has had some before in his life but far and few in between. Total so far in his life he has had maybe 7 migraines. So the migraine he had 2 weeks ago started at 4 am and carried on throughout the entire day into that night. He was disoriented and vomited 5 or 6 times. He slept the entire day. then he woke up the next day for 3 hours. Migraine was mostly gone, tolerable. But he slept the entire next day. The thrid day he was feeling " out of this world" "not really here" "like something is wrong" He couldn't respond to conversation really well, wasn't as whitty as he usually was. He was reall disoriented. This feeling of "not right" is still going on. He doesn't have the head ache any more, he can do his daily tasks, but with limitations. Why is this feeling carrying on? We took him to the ER the 4 day after the migraine, cluster head aches is the result. The pain was behind the eyes. He had numbness in his face and arm.

Some people get "really bad" migraines. I am one also. Sometimes they carry on for days not as bad but still a headache. This is called cluster headaches. Sometimes it feels intolerable. And sick to my stomach. But it never gives me the out of this world feeling. Is he on pain meds? They can make you feel out of it. If not he needs to contact his doctor immediately there could be another serious problem.

sometimes thing don't show up in the mri, i suggest talking to the doctor about taking other tests.

i get migraines very offten and if i let them go to long without taking pain medication i get sick on my stomach and the only thing that i can take for my migrain is Motrin but id have to say Ive had many many migraines in my life but never so bad that i got like that Ive been to a er and to me i dont think that they dont check you over well in the er i think that he should go and see a doctor in there office and get a second oppion

He needs a EEG to rule out any epileptiform acitvity.

This sounds like a migraine but worse. I think you need to get a second opinion--see a different doctor--or a neurologist. This sounds dangerous. The residual pain is common but the disorientation sounds bad. I will say, fatigue is common also for the day after, but not feeling out of it--just tired as hell. I would get him to a new doc immediately.

Magnesium can help in some cases and you can find further information in a search for migraines + magnesium.
