If the Methadone is being given as a pain management medication, then you go to see a pain management doctor.
If the Methadone is being given for Heroin withdrawl/treatment, then you go to a clinic.
When you go to a doctor, it is prescribed the same way any other medication is prescribed (you get a bottle from the pharmacy that has a 30 day supply *usually*).
When you go to a clinic, you have to go to the clinic everyday and you get ONE days dose at a time (this is to prevent the heroin addict from potentially abusing the Methadone). Occasionally, the clinic will give a 2 days dose on Friday so that the patient can get through the weekend (because most clinics are closed over the weekend).
But the main point is this -
Methadone for pain management = pain management doctor or pain management clinic
Methadone for heroin addiction treatment = methadone clinic
Most doctors aren't going to get involved in methadone treatment. Go to a clinic.

It depends upon what you need the methadone for. Is it for pain or detox? If it is for pain- doctor. If it is for detox-clinic.
