Which type of fracture is worse?!
Question: Pubic rami fracture or acetabular fracture? Why?
Answers: Pubic rami fracture or acetabular fracture? Why?
I am not an orthopedic surgeon but rather internal medicine but based on my experience I would have to say that an acetabular fracture is worse than a pubic rami fracture.
A pubic rami is frequent as a stress fracture on athletes and almost always does not require surgical treatment and complications are very uncommon. An acetabular fracture may or may not require surgery. Most do since function is regained faster with surgical intervention. Acetabular fractures can have many complications such as pulmonay embolism, damage to major vessels (iliac artery) trauma to bladder, paralysis, necrosis of femoral head, to name a few. So after all the info I would have to say an acetabular fracture is far worse than a pubic rami fracture.
