Finger hurt while playing Basketball?!

Question: I was playing basketball in school today and my friend passed the ball to me, it hit the tip of my index finger and it went red and started to hurt. After the game (5mins later) my finger swelled up even more, and half an hour later, it was twice its usual size. Now, about 6 hours later, i cannot straighten my finger and the middle section of my finger on the bottom is badly bruised and its a greenish-black colour.
What should i do? Is my finger fractured? It hurts sometimes even when i move the finger next to it.....
It is impossible to straighten it out and it hurts a lot when i bend it.
Should i get an X-ray? Or should i just buy a finger splint?
Any help is appreciated
Crash

Apply an ice pack (wrapped in a towel) to your finger for about 15-20 minutes, remove ice pack for 10 minutes and reapply ice pack to finger. Ice should be applied for the first few days after the injury occurred. Ice will reduce the swelling and relieve some pain. Hold the injured hand above your heart level to help drain fluid and reduce swelling. Use a pillow if needed. From your description you just sprained your finger. You can't move it because it swelled up. Once the swelling is reduced, try to straighten your finger and use a finger splint. Go see a doctor to be on the safe side, but remember to apply ice immediately to your injured finger.

Crash,
Most likely you have a fractured finger. I would suggest that you go to the Doctor and have an X-Ray done and they will determine if it's a fracture or not. They also can treat your finger accordingly. Have a great day!

Not sure where you live. If your from Canada go get a X-ray. If you can move it is is probably fractured (worse). Just keep it in a finger splint for a couple of weeks.

rest and see doc.

Get it checked out, because if it's broken it will need to be set or you will have problems forever. Next read and apply http://www.helium.com/tm/148271 this will speed up the healing process and deal with the swelling and bruising.

Oh My Gosh! The EXACT same thing happened to me! I was playing basketball today and my friend passed me the ball and it hit my index finger on my right hand! The middle section kills when you touch it and is greenish black! I cannot make my finger straight or make my finger go all the way down so it is in a hook formation! It is swollen and is giant! I have done research and it turns out that it is sprained. Thank you!
