Should you squeeze the pus out of an infected wound?!

Question: Rather revolting question, sorry.
but just wanting to know, since I have a small infected wound on my thigh with pus coming out of it.

Thanks :)

you should get the pus out but if there is a lot, you have a fever, if there is a foul odour, you should go to the doctor to get antibiotics in the meantime you should clean with chlorhexidine (available at drugstores) cleans any surface bug within 15 seconds and not as harmful to surrounding tissues as alcohol or peroxide. It is a little more expensive but much more effective. You should apply polysporin ointment and leave it open to air as much as possible.

Hope this helps but remember if it is infected you should get antibiotics ... you should describe the wound a little more. Is it a small opening is it red, swollen, painful or is it a superficial wound (superficial not as serious) ... but if it is more like an abscess (imagine an iceberg in the water with small opening but larger infected area underneath the skin) it likely needs oral antibiotics.

yeah i defo would also if you buy witch hazel it will dry it out.

Irrigate it with Peroxide and then use Polysporin to help it heal faster. Puss is generally a sign of infection so definitely us the peroxide.

Your wound has become an infected abcess. I would advise going to your primaary physician or urgent care. They may need to open it and put antibiotics into the healing wound and pack with gauze depending on the size and depth of infection.

No! You should go to your doctor or A&E, they will give you a local anaesthetic, cut your skin close to the infected wound and then the pus will come squiting out! Then they will give you some antibiotics to combat the infection. You definatly have to go to your doctors, because if the infection spreads it can be really serious!

I would, and then use rubbing alcohol to disinfect it

That is if it is small like you said.

If it's large or red, hot, smells bad.... then yeah- doctor.

I use to have boils really bad as a child.

Drain the pus by pulling the area gently apart and applying pressure- don't squeeze it together. Flush with peroxide. Soak with warm Epsom Salts several times during the day to draw out the infection. Put an antibiotic oinment on the wound and cover with a bandaid or appropriate sized gauze and tape.

Keep it clean. Any red streaks running down the leg, increased pain or swelling means, go to doctors.

NO! Make sure your hands are washed with dial soap, clean the area with dial soap. Swab it with alcohol swabs, and if the wound is open take a blowdryer on low at a distant and blow it dry to get the wound to dry up and heal. At least twice a day. Make sure that it is covered with a clean quaze bandage and that you dont wear any clothes that are tight or snug in that area for it will decrease the healing since it can't breathe. And try to air it out when all possible.
