Finger and nail gone black and other finger tips are all tingling?!
Question: my friend tried to catch a rooftile sliding down a roof and it hit his hand at speed now he thinks he has broken his finger because the whole top and the nail have gone black and the tips of his other fingers are all tingling

Sounds like bruising and some associated damage to the nerves IE trapped. It could be he may lose his fingernail. The best thing would be to see a doctor.
Tingling could be nerve damage, the black is bruising and blood under the nail. Tell him to go to a doctor to check if the nerves aren't damaged.
get an xray.....they shouldn't still be tingling

What are you doing wasting your time asking this question on Yahoo? Get him to a doctor! Fingertips can "die" easily after injury resulting in amputation.
Black -- Blood clot Tingle is nerve damage. Better see the doctor about the blood clot...
It might be broken or it could just be bruised but he should really go get it checked out by a doctor.
He will probably loose the nails. If he can move the joints of his fingers they are probably bruised rather than broken. He should go to casualty and get the doc to look.
