What causes muscle spasms in your leg? I've never had one before, and it hur!
Question: try rubbing with a warm gel or such, dont know what country your in, but a sports type one will work. as for the cause, many and varied. lack of salt can be the culprit but it also could mean you just need to stretch, gently, that part of your leg on a regular basis....good luck

If you are referring to those agonising night cramps in the calf for your leg, I have had these for the last 30 years. I haven't actually had one for the past three or four months, but they'll come back and I'll have three or four in a month, judging from past experience. I'm so used to them now that I feel quite fond of them.
Anyway, to answer your question. I understand that it is supposed to be lack of salt or potassium in your diet. However, I have not noticed anything in my behaviour which makes any difference to when I have them. The only thing I notice is that they come in groups (I'll have a few over a 4 or 6 week timescale) and then they'll go away for a few months.
I don't think they do you any harm, so they are nothing to worry about.
