It's your lucky day. No arthritis. What is happening is the cold is causing your calf muscle to contract or have a spasm. Warming it up under the covers makes the muscle relax.
So, to keep the muscles from hurting keep them warm. Leg warmers, knee socks, tights, whatever you prefer. And do some calf stretches when they are warm.
The best way to do them is sit on the floor with your legs out in from of you. Take a belt or a strip of cloth about 3 feet long and holding the ends in your hands, put your foot in the middle. Then straighten your leg and pull back on the belt pulling your toes and the ball of your foot back toward you. Hold for a count of ten and then relax. Repeat ten times on each leg.
I have done this for years for my calf muscles and it really does work. I hope you feel better soon.
Sorry..."cracking your fingers or toes causes arthritis",....old wives tale.
