Who else is without health insurance? Scary!!?!

Question: I have always had it until about 6 mos. ago when my job was bought out. With my other monthly bills I cannot afford the individual premium but also do not meet requirements to receive a penny of free care.. Am I alone in this, what do you do in transitional periods?

You can purchase what's called "Gap insurance" with any major health care provider.

Basically, if you get a broken bone or find yourself seriously injured and cannot afford medical care, they cover the big ticket stuff. And it tends to be pretty cheap!

For general prescriptions and routine doctor visits, you're on your own.

I know because I was without health insurance for a year or so. And yes, it was scary the first few months. I was terrified and stopped rollerblading and stuff. But then you start to become keenly aware of your limitations and you really start taking better care of yourself than before. It was a great learning experience and I'm glad it happened.

thats good for you.. I never had any 'insurance' in my life..

That is very scary.

I live in Canada, so thank God we have health care up here. It's something the US should do too!

I haven't had medical insurance in 2 1/2 years since changing companies. basic insurance at my company is 30% my income which is way too much for me to afford. i also make too much to get medicaid which is much needed right now since I have problems with my cervix. i might have cancer, who knows? That's why the 2 democratic nominees are so focused on health care reform right now because there's millions of us like that

I pray I dont get sick.

I dont have insurance right now because I would have to pay for it, and its more than my rent.

The last time I got sick without insurance I managed to rack up 8,000 in medical bills (in one weekend) and it took me 3 years to pay it off.

That we are the only first world nation other than south africa that doesnt provide health care to all of its residents is a darn shame....there are third world nations that are doing better then we are in those regards.

same here. havent for about four years. well we are saving money but if we get sick were screwed. another reason why we need a democrat in office. clinics dont cover everything.

well i guess its good you live in the US then if you lived some where with "universal" healthcare you would be paying for it even if you didnt use it with the outrageous tax rates... anyways i have insurance but i havent been to the hospital in 7 years so i pretty sure youll be ok

With the amount of money the governments in the civilized world are getting there should be Universal Health care.

I am in the same situation as you, except I haven't had medical insurance in the last three years. It's scary. I have two kids and it can be overwhelming. Just look around at different insurances. I haven't been able to find anything yet that I can afford.
