Any tips for managing the pain of a very arthritic hip. It is really sore at the!

Question: Getting up from sitting is really painful as is walking on rough ground. What do other people do for it? I already take glucosamine and chondroitin in aloe vera. And take ibuprofen most mornings. What else can I do?

I suffer too so I can really sympathise with you. My advice is to try to rest it as much as possible. I bought a hot water bottle in a cover and I take that to bed with me and place it against my left hip, the heat really does help. I take co-codamol (30/500 mg) sometimes I take 2 tramadol just before bed (they make me feel dizzy and sick so I don't like taking them during the day) I also take Lyrica,, it is actually an anti-epilepsy drug but is being recognised in pain management clinics for it's benefits, I am not sure exactly how it works as it is down to the nerve impulses from the brain. I make sure I take my pills on time, that way I can control the pain rather than the pain controlling me. If I miss a dose or take it late it can take a couple of days to gain control again. I use a stick or crutch when I am out, if it is really playing me up I use 2. I changed my car and bought an automatic (it's my left hip that is the worst) I sleep with a wedge pillow between my legs - narrow end at the top, wider end at my ankles, this helps to keep my hips level and stops my pelvis twisting. If I lay on my back I put my leg up on the pillow. I find if I can have a decent nights sleep it helps too.

You don't say how old you are or if you have seen a doctor. I had my hip replaced when I was 37 it has helped a bit but for me the arthritis had spread through my pelvis too.

I hope you are feeling better soon xx

i would recommend a tens machine, they are very good

Take cod liver oil for the long term. Short term, try a lavender wheat bag sometimes the warmth helps. I have acupuncture on my knees courtesy of NHS and it really helps.

Sorry for repeating myself as others have probably already read what i'm going to say. Try a TENS machine,
