I freak out REALLY bad when I have needles...?!

Question: And I have to have that cervical cancer needle at school in like a week. But I start crying and I bite my fingers and then they start bleeding and I get myself all worked up! And thats what happens at school...When I'm at the doctors I sit on my Mum's lap and then the Doctor sits on ME! And I don't want to have it at the doctors because I hate it when Mum's there when I have needles.

aahhh any tips? Last time I had a needle at school I had 2 guy friends holding my shoulders down so I wouldn't move and I had Hayley holding my right hand, Lauren holding my left hand and then Rob like 5cm away from my face going 'Rach, rach, rach its okay...breaattheee..its okay rachel, its okay'.

But I still REALLY BADLY FREAK OUT! Please? Help?

Whew...I used to get really freaked out with shots and stuff. I have had to visit the doc's a lot when I was a teen and needles, whether to draw out my blood, give me shots, or even numbing shots, I would get woozy and very tense. Everybody is different, so here's some suggestions that might help ya. Mull 'em over and think about it.

Before you get your shot, ask the doctor what to expect (the process and what it'll feel like, etc.)

Have the doctor explain what's going on as it happens and/or just watch what's happening. Sometimes listening and watching can help.

Picture yourself being filmed for TV (that helped my brother be brave for his shots).

Practice meditative exercises in the mind first and do some breathing exercises.

The day before your shot, see if you can watch your friends get shots...sort of to prepare yourself. Watching others be calm can help you.

Post positive stickies on your mirror and read then aloud. (Sound odd, but self-reinforcement is a powerful tool)

See if you can't listen to your ipod/radio/cell phone etc. while you have the shot. Sometimes putting your focus on something else entirely can help.

Those are the few suggestions I know off the top of my head...Good luck!

Just try to stay calm. know tat you will get through it! It might help you if you bring a stress ball you can squeeze so you dont bit your fingers to the bone and have to get then amputated and cause even more freaking out!! lol jk well just try to stay calm.. :)

I freak out really badly at needles too, when ever i do get i shot . . . . er i have to have my dad hold me! And im 18!!! oh, also, i have M.S. so i have to have a shot every week and it's an intermusclaure(?) shot, so yeah

The Ones they give you at school are OPTIONAL

Personally I declined it- I threw a HUGE fit....
They send a form home asking if you want one or not
Tell your parents to fill in NO

Or if there is "no" option get a needle exemption form and get it signed by a Public Notary it costs around 15-30$ Although mine was about 69$ because my parents go to expensive places.

Good luck and Go against that needle if you want there is MANY was to get out of MANDATORY needles.
Good luck and I'm a needle-phobia too!

Close your eyes and look away.
I am 50+ and I still can't look when I get a jab.

The last one was a Flue jab, and it felt the size of a 6" nail in thickness

This one I can`t help you with. I`m a blood donor, and have been giving a pint of blood every 3 months for many years. I hate the needles, but it`s over in a second, so I keep showing up. I understand that you may have a fear of being stuck, but remember, cervical cancer can bring many, many needles, so try to brave it out.LUV

Hi,

when you have needles.. Just think something you like very much..that will calm downthe tension...

Cheers

You Are Not The Only One - i had a hep B needle last year its a pric and then it hurts for about 5 minutes --- its a small price to pay to prevent cervical cancer
