I sprained my ankle on August 1. Should it still hurt?!

Question: I am a swimmer, so ankle flexibility is important. However, the ankle that I sprained still hurts when I point my foot, and my range of motion is quite limited. It hurts when I move it far in any direction. I figured it would get better in 6 months, but it hasn't.

For the record, I didn't get any medical treatment. I wore a stabilizer for the first week, and then I went on as normal.

You should see a physical therapist so that you can regain your range of motion. Not all injuries heal completely on their own. Sometimes swelling impedes joint mobility, and you need specific exercises to mobilize and strengthen the joint. The sprain is probably healed, but something else (possibly residue from the swelling) is keeping your foot from functioning fully.

I was a dancer and I had a lot of ankle sprains and physical therapy.

no

See a doctor, six months is a lot. It could be messed up if you delay longer.

uh... no. that's, like, six months ago. see a doctor.

sprained ankles shouldn't hurt that long. i would have thought that they last 2 weeks max depending on how bad they are. maybe you should go see a physical therapist to have it checked.

sounds like it healed the wrong way cause it should stop hurting about a month or so after. i sprained ankle in the same spot 2 different time and it hurt like hell, swollen etc. it doesn't hurt now though.

go see a dr you might need physical therapy since you are still feeling pain.

Not really. You may have done something else other than tear ligaments. It also depends on whether it was an inward or outward sprain and how the ligaments healed.

did it still hurt after a few days after u wore the stabilizer? I sprained my ankle one time. and I used an Ace bandage for about 1 week. Then when the pain didn't go away I wore a gel cast that the doctor gave me for about 2 weeks. My ankle was still hurting and I went to the doctor and he said not to worry. I just had to wait a little longer.. But you should probably go to a doctor just in case.

No. You may have torn a ligament as opposed to spraining a muscle or pulling a tendon. Unfortunately, ligaments are not living tissue; they're more like hair or fingernails. They don't ever actually heal themselves; you may need surgical intervention to restore full movement to your ankle.

a sprain is worse then a bresak, because you can't set a sprain. it'll take some time work it .you're an athlete don't rush it keep ice on it and keep it elevated. I know I've had alot of broken bones in my life

I hurt my ankle playing tennis two years ago. I just recently got it fixed... I had problems for the entire two years waiting for it to get better on it's own. So I finally gave in and my doctor gave me some shot in like 5 minutes and it was cured!!!!

Just go see your doctor and it might be something just as simple as what I had,
just fyi: braces did not work for me at all, I tried everything too, stretches and the whole bit...what a waste of pain for two years... XP

go see the doc. best advice I can give you

oh yeah, I thought mine was a sprained ankle too, but it wasn't, had to do with something to do with the bone..but not broken..I don't really know what it was

SEE an orthopedic doctor. Get it checked out. If it's still bothering you six months later, you haven't healed the right way and you should have seen a doctor at that time. Take care of it asap.
