Broke part of my big toe off falling down the stairs!!?!

Question: about a quarter of my toenail ripped off. it is still attached to the rest of the nail by a little bit and I am bandaiding it in place so keep the skins underneath from being exposed? I don't know what to do. it really hurts and it is way too cold to wear sandals all the time. I would rather not go to a doctor for something this small. should I just neosporin it and keep it covered?

Just keep it clean. I don't recommend newsprint for most things because it keeps it too moist and if a bug get in that neosporin doesn't fight then it can get worse. It makes a very nice growing ground for other types of infection.
The best thing I have found and was told by a infection Dr. to use to clean wounds is boil about a quart of water and put about a tsp. of salt in it. Then let it cool down. Pour over wound. Let dry and them cover with a bandage.

Your toe nail will most likely fall off the rest of the way soon. It will then grow back, typically. The pain is mostly more from not removing the nail then from the trauma to the nail initially. I would suggest removing the hanging nail, keep it covered and if it becomes red and swollen go to the doctor immediately. If you are diabetic, you should go to the doctor immediately because any trauma like that is dangerous.

go see a doctor

They'll probably amputate your leg from the knee down for something this serious.

OUCH!!!!!!!!
