I've actually watched an arthroscopic rotator cuff repair in person and the guy was completely knocked out with anesthesia, and that anesthesia was IV anesthesia, so you will be injected.

This is not the type of thing they use laughing gas for honey, you'll be fine.

they will make sure you don't feel any pain during the surgery. Don't panic, if you feel like you feel something let them know immediately. I've always been worried about this stuff too - but it always turns out just fine.

This sort of thing is done millions of times a day all over the globe - do you see other people as scared as you are before surgery. You feel nothing, you wake up new and it takes a few days for the thing to heal. Enjoy the trip.

They never make you feel pain during surgery. but i'd recommend Local anesthesia- its when they dont put you to sleep but you still dont feel anything. That costs less and you recover faster!

Good luck!

ever seen those shows where the people are awake during surgery and feel every cut, slice, prick and tear but cant move or say anything even though they are in horrible pain?

thats what u will be going through ;)

I've had surgery twice. It hurts afterwards, but you are totally knocked out while they do it, not even any memory of it because you are unconcious. Now I'm pretty sure some surgeries do not need you to be unconcious, but even in a worse case scenario, you still won't feel pain.

Of one thing you can be sure, you will be out during this procedure. Even if all you get is a nerve block, there will be something to keep you calm during the procedure.
What you should be concerned about, however, is post-op pain. Its always a good idea to review with your surgeon his choices for pain management. While this is a common procedure, you arent exactly going to feel great afterward.

i had my wisdom teeth pulled less than a month ago, & they put me to sleep. i was scared to death too. but i didnt feel/hear ANYTHING. im so glad i did it, rather than just numbing shots...it is a different story than yours, but you wont feel anything. i PROMISE. i was super nervous, but i scared myself more than i needed too. the doctors know what theyre doing! good luck!

Trust me you will be OK and you will not feel a thing during surgery, I've had 4 operations under anesthetic, the first one i had i was scared, but the other 3 i was as calm as, you will more than likely be prescribed pain killers after the operation, if i had to have surgery tomorrow it would not bother me at all, you will be OK.

It is perfectly normal to be scared of any kind of surgery. But I am sure things will go fine. Arthroscopic surgery is the best. There will be no pain during the surgery. They usually do not use gas anymore, but rather something put into an IV. As far as pain afterwords, there should be very little or none. I had the same thing and I did not have any pain afterwords. If you do have any pain I am sure they will give you something to take home. Good luck to you on you surgery and try not to worry to much. It will be just fine. I think you will be surprised!

you'll be fine! barring the tiny chance of running into one of those Nazi doctors experimenting with cheaper pain meds
