I sprung my thumb... I think??!


Question: Ok... Last night I like ran, jumped and then my thumb bent all the way back when I made it too the bed.
It was swollen... hurts horrid... and was warm.
I put ACE Bandage on it to stop the finger from moving around because it hurts when I move it but... Im not sure how long the keep it on??.... and what do you think happend I can move it a bit but it constantly hurts...

probably you should get a splint for it. In addition, keep icing it, and make sure to keep it elevated (not too hard for a thumb). Besides that, the best way to treat a sprain (which is probably what happened--you just overextended the natural stretch of you thumb) is to immobilize the site completely while there is still swelling (hence, the splint rather than the ace bandage), but after the swelling dies down, you should switch to an ace bandage, or anything else which promotes movement. It is important to keep it moving after the swelling has gone, so that it doesn't become too stiff. But other than that, Get well soon.
