Skipping Rope - Sore calf muscles.?!

Question: Yesterday I had a skipping rope session for around 30 minutes as part of my new workout routine. I have never skipped before.

Today when I woke up, it was hard to walk and I had pain in my calf muscles. They feel a little better now. I'm guessing it's because I'm not familiar with skipping? The same happened when I started running too. Anyone else had the same problem? If so, how long did it take to go away?

You have done too much too soon, but the secret to get rid of the pain, is to repeat the exercise, not for as long as you did before. This will stretch the muscles again and believe it or not will ease the pain. I leared this trick when i used to go weightlifting. yes it will hurt when you try to repeat it, but after a rest the pain will have eased considerably, if not all together.

The secret is to start gently and not go at it like a bull at a gate LOL

It will probably take up to a week to go off, in the meantime something like Votarol Emugel should take the worst off, as would Radox baths

i am a ballerina and i get the same thing if you do it more often it eventually will not be sore once you get used to it but until then it takes 3-5 days the pain decreses and becomes more comfortable every day a hot bath after exercising or maybe even now reduces the discomfort good luck

What you are experiencing is know as delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) This happens when muscles that are not used often are severely fatigued. it is not a bad thing it just means they need a rest at least 3 days. The second day is usually worse then the first so you may have more soreness tomorrow than you did today but after that they should start to feel OK. You might want to try cutting your routine down a bit and work your way up.
