UTI or anxiety?!

Question: I am being treated for anxiety (Prozac) and my physician just gave me a referal to a psychiatrist. Recently I started getting UTI symptoms (frequent urge to pee, burning when I pee unless the bladder was full, and pain in my left abdominal/pelvic region).

The weird thing is I started feeling better for a day, then felt worse for a day, now I'm feeling better again though not 100%. It was fine this morning but got worse throughout the day. It's been 4 days.

This inconsistency makes me think it may be psychosomatic and not a UTI. I'd rather not spend the 4 hrs+ waiting in urgent care at student health (I'm a grad student) because there are no available appointments for at least a week.

I know needing to pee a lot can be anxiety related. I am prone to physical symptoms of anxiety: tense stomach, difficulty breathing, palpitations, gastroenteritis. So what I'm wondering is, is it reasonable to think this may be anxiety induced or do I need to see a doctor?

You seem to be an intelligent person and well aware of your anxiety-related problems. So there's a possibility, these urinary frequencies could also be anxiety -related. However, the burning sensation is not. So I think, it would behoove you to have that urine checked if you do have a mild case of UTI. Also, check if your urine is cloudy -looking and has a strong odor. You can address this UTI by drinking a lot of fluids. Cranberry juice is very good for UTI. Good personal hygiene is another such as clean underwear preferably cotton. Health supplement of bean pod will also clear it up.

As for your anxiety, you should discuss with your Psychiatrist about other meds. Prozac ( Fluoxetine HCL) is really not the drug of choice for anxiety. It's an anti-depressant. While not everyone taking PROZAC experiences side effects, the side effects that people taking PROZAC experience most include nausea, difficulty sleeping, drowsiness, ANXIETY, nervousness, weakness, loss of appetite, tremors, dry mouth, sweating, decreased sex drive, impotence, and/or yawning.
AS you can see, anxiety is one of its side effects. There are known documented cases of suicides attributed to Prozac.

Get it checked out. It could be a UTI, or a symptom of something else.

You cannot simply assume that the symptoms are due to anxiety. It is better to undergo a test. At least this will lessen your anxiety. Start meditating daily.
