What execises or stretches can I do to relieve lower back pain??/?!

Question: Back pain exercise is an important element in recovering from acute backache, and may help those who have chronic back pain. Whatever the cause, it is very likely that you have probably experienced acute or chronic back pain in your lifetime. If you belong to one of those unfortunate back pain sufferers, you probably already know there are things you should and should not do when you are in severe pain. Of course your doctor should approve any exercise.

If you cannot do anything else at least try to stand up once a day. Here is a good exercise to do when you are on bed rest. Lie on your stomach and prop yourself up by your elbows. Slowly and gently push up so that your hips remain on the floor and your stomach and chest are lifted up. Do this as far as you can without overextending yourself. After this, roll onto your back and insert a rolled up towel under your lower back.

Learn Yoga

Camel hump backs. With both hands and knees on the floor, arch your back and hold for 10 secs. Repeat 10 times. Gradually add secs and do more repetitions as you feel like it. This exercise has the amazing ability to get rid of back pain soon.

My spine often aches a bit right after I wake up, so I do some stretching, or twists. It might be dangerous, it might not, but it's not sharp at all, just steady, gentle pressure. Here's what you do:

Sit down cross-legged on the floor or upright in a chair (the chair is best for lumbar pain). Put your hands on either side of you on the floor, or twist around until your hands are on the back of the chair. Then twist your back. Do not move your legs; that's the whole point of the exercise. You might hear cracking sounds: I suspect it's the same as cracking your knuckles. Repeat by twisting the other way.

There is a really great DVD called AM/PM Yoga with Rodney Yee .It was recommended to me by a neurosurgeon friend of mine and it does work .
It costs about $12.00-$15.00 and is readily available in places like Target , Sports Authority etc.
Do the AM first
Good luck
