Suppose you have 1 hip replacement and if fails you, can you have another one.?!

Question: The answer to this question is really an... it depends... sort of answer. I wish it was more simple. For a simple fracture, many times there can be a hip replacement, and later, a new prosthesis can be implanted.

However, for some conditions, such as conditions where there is bone loss or necrosis (bone death), the condition of the surrounding bone may preclude a second surgery. You need to discuss these factors with your surgeon, to get the information which applies to your condition. If there is an alternative, which could increase the life of the existing hip, and the surgeon is recommending that, it is often the better choice. Remember there is sometimes not a best choice in medicine.

I hope this is the type information you are looking for.

You can and some people do just that but it takes twice as long to heal. A friend of mine just had a double hip replacement and one of her hips was done a second time and she really had a hard time with it.

my mum did that surgery in 1993 it cost her $15000 U.S n that kind of hips was made in France n its for ever so u don't need to replace it another time but for the first year u need to b really care full no steps no bending n stuff but later on u can do anything n until now thx god she is living her life normal n better

Can you buy and sell hip? LOL

I have had 12 hip replacements the first one I was 24 years old and in the hospital for 2 full weeks I am now 57 and had one redone 10 years ago and only in the hospital 3 days with hardly no pain ( I never had to use pain meds) they have improved this surgery ten fold.I had a desk job so I only missed 2 weeks of work.I have a form of degenerative arthritis so it might be different from you have I have had both cemented and the ones that the bone grows into.My doctor let me keep each one that he replaced.I am about ready to have another replaced as one has come loose.this is not all that painful but with as many as I have had I suppose they have damaged some of my nerves.Just some pointers before you have it done get your hair cut,cut your toe nails, get a seat riser for your toilet, and do it in the winter when there is not much to do because in the summer you want to do more than just sit in the house. When you go to physical therapy take your pain pills one hour before going.get a pair of slip on shoes,I guess you should get a second op pinion Because I have know idea why your doctor gave you this information I know several people that have had three or more replacement. Also they make small cuts now(about 2 inches as mine were at least 12 inches.good luck and don't be afraid to have it done.
