Do you say 'I'm fine?'?!

Question: I was in hospital in agony and am lucky to be alive. When people visited me and asked how I was, I just said 'I'm fine'.
'Are you in pain?'- 'I am ok......got any morphine?' Why do we say we are ok when we aren't?

Well, since you asked, I always tell people the truth. If it hurts, say it hurts. (You will not get the morphine, unless you ask.) My friends and family usualy can tell if I am not being honest with them anyway. If you tell me you are fine, I believe that you are fine. Are you? Ttfn, Jen

I don't. I say I'm alive if I'm really hurting. ;)

good nature u dont want others to worry about u

i think we say it so others wont worry about us. If they knew the truth they might fuss. or because we cant be bothered explaining everything to everyone everytime they ask us how we are. It would be exhausting

yep, same as the first chick who answered. if im feeling really shitty i just say "well dude... im alive..."

Because people don't really want to know the true answer.
They are being polite by asking & you are being polite by giving a swift pleasant answer...if you were honest, said things were awful & started moaning about it people would be like "I was just being polite ffs!"

Because we are compulsive liars.lol

truelly your the kind of person who doesnt like attetion or pity i think people should repsect that.

Depends.. it all depends...

Sometimes u want the people to stop botherin u & just get some rest...

Sometimes u dun want them to worry...

Sometimes ur too tired to say much or do much

Sometimes ...

well y'know what i mean

it all depends

generally the question ..."how are you...?" is not a real enquiry into your actual condition. It's just a common pleasantry.

Likewise, the answer..."I'm fine...!" is not a real answer, but one used to simply complete the meaningless charade.

This then allows you both to move on to other things, indeed, even a sincere discussion of the real state of your present condition.

We're taught to suck it up and not bring others down with our problems. I have Lupus and found out after awhile, I had a hard time "lying" to people about how I'm feeling. I no longer say "I'm fine." I either say, "I've sen better days!" or "Actually, today, I'm feeling pretty good." Sometimes we become people pleasers and don't want to ruin someone's day complaining. But sometimes you just have to say "DAMMIT! I DON'T FEEL GOOD!!! SOMEBODY FEEL SORRY FOR ME!!!" Really, try it, you'll feel better ;)

Hope you feel better soon.

it's a guy thing...i could be dying and i think i'd still say i'm ok / fine

So as not to trouble other people.

Get well soon

Because you and other people you want to feel good and it is instincts

I usually tell the truth when I am in pain....and don't tell people I'm fine unless I am.

Because people really do not care if you are sick or not. That is what we learn. And it is simpler to say we are ok than to explain. I say "It's not my best day" when I'm having a bad pain day.
