Braces/Spacers.?!

Question: I am getting braces on next Friday. Right now I have on spacers, and it's hard to chew. Will braces make it hard to chew? Can I chew gum? My orthodontist said it's a no-no, but everyone at school with braces chews gum. Help! Thank You.

Well sugar free gum is the best to chew with braces, Beucase the sugar cant get under the brackets and cause holes in you teeth. Its not to hard to chew the only thing is getting food stuck under them and its all nasty and makes you want to throw up but just buy a water pick at any grocery store this help clean around the brackets and just have fun with your braces in the end you will be thankful you had them

i always chew gum but make sure its sugarless gum... braces only hurt for a couple of days just take some tylenol and eat soup, icecream , mashpotatoes and stuff like that and then you will be able to eat a lot of things except corn on the cob!

chew sugar free gum, and braces hurt a lot, but it gets better just remember to have a painkiller in your body at all times it will ease the pain.... also buy lots of foods that you can;t chew like mashed potatoes, ice cream, yogart, puding, etc.

The dentist tells some people who are getting braces not to chew gum for a reason. If you have TMJ gum over works the joint. If you have an alignment problem {under or overbite} then chewing gum can actually make you have to wear braces longer because it stops the braces from being able to tighten the muscles to pull or push the jaw to the correct position.
