Eye Drops and Birth Control?!

Question: I was just prescribed an antibiotic for my eye (TobraDex) and I am wondering if anyone knows if it will interfere with my birth control pills effectiveness. The birth control I am on is Loestrin24 Fe.

I asked the pharmacist, and he said no "it's applied too far away", but he said it quickly almost without thinking, so I'm a little worried. Any help would be great. ^^

The antibiotic is in the eye. A tiny amount might be absorbed into the body, but it's not a big deal. The birth control/ antibiotic interaction is really overstated. It is not even considered that major. There have only been a handful of recorded cases of women getting pregnant due to their antibiotics.

I don't know why an eye drop would interfere with a birth control. You could always check on WebMD and/or look up both Rx's. If you still have a question, call ask-a-nurse.

If the pharmacist says nothing will happen it's okay. Your woried that he said it too fast for your liking right? Well he probably said it fast because he knows the answer like a snap. Don't worry everything is fine. Plus I really don't think eyedrops are going to interfere with birth control pills.

Neither is used in the same system.

The birth control will never work with the eyes. The eye drops only work in the eyes. They are separated.

If you want to know for sure, call your doctor.
