I have weird pains in my left arm?!

Question: my arm has hurt for about a week, and i think i'm going to go to the hospital tomorrow.. i'm a little bit of a health freak, in the way that i'm scared something is going to go wrong & i'm going to get really scared over it..
i'm unsure of what it could be, but i'm guessing that going to the emergency room since it's going to be months before i get in with my doctor is the best thing to do?

i'd love to know some possible reasons why it hurts..

I too believe telling someone who is an admitted health freak, that pain in the arm could be heart related is extremely cruel. But pain in the left arm could be symptomatic of a ton of things. I would definitely suggest going on in to the emergency, if for nothing else, to get an EKG and some x-rays. Sometimes, ruling out somethings will allow you to rest easier. But to me, it sounds like muscle strain, possibly from the position you sleep in at night.

Anyhoo, that's my two cents. Also, i suffer from panic and anxiety attacks and I will get pain in my left arm before the onset of the attack.

Possible heart problem, especially if you didn't injure your arm recently.

describe the pain. Technically, pain in the left arm has often been associated with heart problems, but from the information you have supplied, it is unreasonable to even consider that.

more info plz, thx.

Your probably freaking out over nothing. If a sore arm is the worst of your problems, take a tylenol and watch a movie or do something else to get your mind off it. Book an appt. with your family doctor. I would be willing to bet by the time you see him/her, your arm is better and something else is bothering you.

Edit: Telling a hypochondriac that there is something wrong with his heart is cruel. If the arm is sore for a week and there is no chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, etc the chances are so slim it's not really worth mentioning.

Hmm... I know that there are "common nerve passageways" between the left arm and the heart, and sometimes people with heart problems will experience pain in their left arm. Hopefully it is not that.

Also, sometimes it can just be a pulled muscle, perhaps just by the way you are sleeping, just hitting it on something. Muscles can act weird and hurt for a while even after the smallest of injuries.

Since it's been hurting for a week, the ER is the best thing to do I believe. They should be able to clear things up and at the least make sure it isn't a heart problem.

Best wishes.
