Side effect to Amoxicillin or Yasmin?!
Question: On Moday I was prescribed Amoxicillin for strep. Last Friday, the I started taking Yasmin birth Control. So, Tuesday night I could not sleep at all, I felt restless even though I had not taken naps all day, and I was feeling 90% better.
Then last night I was really tired because I had barely got a chance to rest in the past 40 something hours, but then when I went to bed, it happend again and I couldn't sleep. However, after awhile (Still late) I was able to get a semi-decent night sleep. Could insomnia be a side effect to either of these pills?
PS- usually I sleep like a baby for a full 8 hours each night, so this is like torture!!

hey there, i'm allergic to amoxicillin and i've been taking yasmin for years. i know reactions are different but i've never had any type on insomnia with yasmin, my bet is on the amox as the culprit.
well, your birth control wont work if you're on amoxicillin. they somehow counteract eachother. ive heard of a few people that have got pregnant that way. taking the pill, got sick and went on antibiotics and had unprotected sex and ended up pregnant.
ive been on amoxicillin and ive never really noticed any insomnia. i didnt sleep well for the first few days of having strep and being on antibiotics, but thats cause i couldnt swallow anything without my throat hurting like hell.

Amoxicillin can cause people who have an alergic reation to it not to sleep, for I know I am alergic to this med.. I can not have PCN either, for I would die from it!!
Your Yasmin will not take effect right away, your pharamist should have told you this.. I would call them and ask what they say.. Then call you doctor, for trust me YOU can have a bad reaction!!
Was this the same doctor that proscirbe both meds? If so then they should have told you about the risks and side effects... Also Yaz should have a liver test done, regulary!!!

Sounds like your body is adjusting to the Amoxicillin. I would call your Doctor and ask if that is a side affect and did you fill your medical Doctor in on your birth control? I'm not a doctor but sometimes when you take a prescription like that it breaks down and messes with your sleep. Try to stay away from caffeine because that would trigger your insomnia.
