How long will it take my ankle to heal?!

Question: Six days ago, I took a nasty tumble onto the side of my ankle and sprained it really bad. I'm thinking I tore the ligament completely because 1.) There was a loud pop when I went down on it 2.)It was so swollen that it looked like my knee dropped down into my ankle and it continued swelling all around over the next few days 3.)The bruising went all the way from my toes to mid-calf and they are basically continuous through the whole area (it travelled both upwards and downwards).Four days after it happens though, the pain begins. I mean, it really hurts. I can't stand on my foot yet but when I stand on the other foot and extend the sprained one in front of me, the pain is debilitating. I hate crutches. When can I walk again? And why is the pain starting this late (it hurt like crazy when I fell but after 30 seconds I was fine, but my ankle was too weak to stand on). I've already been to an orthopedic doctor and the ER when it happen and they just told me not to use the foot.

Take a look at kneecrutch.com. This device should be helpful and alot better than conventional crutches

You need to be on crutches! It doesn't matter how much yo uhate them, you CAN NOT walk on it, and I don't see how you've been getting around if you say you can't put weight on it. I say go back to the ER and really insist that they x-ray it and thoroughly check it out. It sounds like a really bad injury, so don't just let it heal.
