I hit my head on a cabinet at work...should I report it to HR?!

Question: I was leaning over the sink in one of our break areas and when I straightened I hit the top of my head on the bottom of a cabinet. I am not exhibiting any symptoms other than a little soreness where I hit my head, and I am icing it. If I start to be woozy, nauseous, etc, I will seek medical attention. My immediate concern is whether I am supposed to report this incident to my company. Opinions and advice would be appreciated!

HI there,
Poor you!
Normally if incidents like this happen at work, they need to be reported to your manager, or the person incharge of health and safety in your dept.
Normally, some incidents may seem minor, but so that risk assessments can be done, you need to report it. They will come and assess it to see if it is at a too low level for standard height of people. This will then determine whether it needs to be moved or put higher. Hope this helps..

Absolutely.

If you don't, and you end up suffering worse conditions later, you can't claim workers compensation.

Yes. You need to report it in case of a workers compensation claim. It is probably no big deal but it is better to have it on record.

Do..without a doubt. If you need more medical attention, or even if you don't, it's always best to let them know what happened and how. Hope your head is ok

Right away!

You need to report it because you could show symptoms 20 years from now and you will be covered with workers comp. Always report accidents, even the most trivial ones. Always CYA (Cover Your A**).

Always report an accident, no matter how minor. Atleast that covers your butt from having to pay your own medical bills down the road if something DOES become of this. L and I will need some proof, or some kind of paper trail to help you out.... and if all they have is you 'saying' you did it three months ago at work.... they are not likely to side with you. However if you filled out an accident report it is alway on file for someone to pull from in case things do *hopefully not* get worse.

Definitely, your company will expect you to report it anyway

I'm sure you will be OK in no time but just in case there are any complications you need to ensure it is recorded, without a doubt.

If you start feeling the symptoms you mentioned above, then yes you should report it to them.

Absolutely you should. If you don't and do end up seeking medical attention you are responsible for the bill, whereas if you do, your employer's workman's comp insurance will foot the bill.

YES! if something goes wrong in a month and you have nothing to show that you did it at work.. you get no workmens comp.

yes

You will be ok

All accidents should be reported at work...and be documented.

Do it now!

I would seriously report to HR. And then go to the ER. And have it checked out. I would not go into work tomorrow. DO NOT LYE DOWN. You may have a concussion.

always report an accident, no matter how minor it may seem. At the very least if you get hospitalized for whatever reason pertaining to the accident, you have prior proof that you spoke with them about it.

No, no future jobs can hold it against you if you claimed workmans comp, nor can they hold it against you if you reported accidents that didn't come to anything. That would be discrimination, and the only reason they would have to get around it is if you are disabled in a way that would prevent you from doing the job effectively (such as someone who is in a wheelchair can't do stocking but can do office work).

You absolutely need to report the incident to your supervisor. The catch is that an incident needs to be reported within 24 hours. Typically a company should have an incident report that you will be required to fill out describing what happened. If you find that you require medical attention in the future you should be covered by the company's workers compensation provided you have documentation.
