What causes a leg to ache so bad at bedtime that sleep is impossible.?!

Question: If there has been no injury, illness or condition diagnosed (orthopaedic condition, vascular disorder, neurologic disorder), then it is possible one could be experiencing low blood sugar during the sleep cycle, which can result in cramping, charlie horses, etc.

A small protein heavy snack before bedtime (maybe an ounce or two of tuna on a cracker) may help level the blood sugars and prevent some of the pain.

Restless leg syndrome.

I don't know if this helps but have you looked into Restless Leg Syndrome?

restless leg syndrome?

I know you said it aches, but you may have restless leg syndrome (the constant feeling of wanting to move your legs because of discomfort).

If you've had prior injuries, that could be a contributor to the pain you feel at night. Whenever I wear heels for a prolonged amount of time, my legs ache so much at night.

Sorry I couldn't be of better help.

Possible it could be a circulation problem or restless leg. Best to have your heart and blood pressure checked by a doctor. Don't wear tight under garments to bed. Raise your legs elevated on a pillow.

Its called restless leg syndrome and is very painful and uncomfortable. You need to tell your doctor whats going on so that he / she can prescribe something to ease the pain and let you get some peace at night - i suffer with it myself, not every night but enough nights to make me aware of it! It helps a lot if your legs are raised during sleep so try putting a pillow under your heels before you drop off, it helps me - sometimes!!! Theres no known cure for it but drugs do help as do self help techniques such as raising your legs or sleeping in a different position. Good luck.
